Winds veered temporarily to the north in most places and reached gale force in many instances. A change to southerlies again, however, has sinco taken place everywhere. Although1 threatening, the depression caused very little rain. With tho southerly change, temperatures fell sharply and there were some hail storms in the South Island; and in the interior a few frosts were registered last night.

Auckland had fair to cloudy weather yesterday, with a south-westerly wind. Wellington had a beautiful morning, but. skies clouded over as the day progressed, and the northerly wind increased to gale force. The maximum gust was one at 8 p.m., with a velocity of fifty-eight miles an hour. At 11.15 p.m. the wind changed to-the south. Temperatures fell rapidly, and although rain threatened none eventuated. Conditions tKis morning were" somewhat cloudy and cold, with a moderate wind from botiyeen- the south arid south-east.

. A keen north-easterly wind prevailed in Christchurch most of yesterday. In the late ; afternoon, after a blow from the north-west, there was i, sudden change to south-westerly winds which for a short time roached gale force. A little rain fell, but the weather this morning was clear with a strong southwest wind blowing. .
