The directors of Sharland and Co., in presenting the balance-sheet and profit and loss account fflr the year ended August '31, report that, after providing for all bad and doubtful debts, land and income tax, depreciation, writing £2000 off goodwill Y.C. Co. account, and taking stock at cost price or market value whichever is the lower, there remains a balance of £6788 14s Bd, made up as follows:—Profit for year ended August 31, 1933, £13,440 15s lid; balance brought forward from previ,ous year, £3462 18s 9d; in all £16,903 14s ■•Bd. Out of this has already been dealt ,'with—reserve for land and income tax, ..£5000; writing off goodwill Y.C. Co., . £2000; interim dividend 2% per cent., paid May 10, 1933, £3125;<total £10,125. ■ The net amount available for distribution ,is £6778 14s Bd. It is proposed to pay a dividend of 5 per cent, per- annum on both preference and ordinary shares, £6250 (less interim dividend as above, £3125), £3125, leaving balance to be carried forward to next year, £3653 14s Bd. ' The thanks of the shareholders are due . to the general manager, branch managers, arid staff for their efficient services during the year, which have again contributed to the satisfactory results. ' The retiring directors are Mr. W. Watson and Mr. J. H. Owen, who offer themselves for re-election. The auditors—Mr. James W. Jack, in Wellington, and JUessrs. A. and J. Grierson, in Auckland— offer themselves for re-election, and there are no other nominations. The net profit is about the same as last year, and the amount to be carried forward is £191 more than last year.
