The death occurred, this morning of Captain Ernest Delaney, a well-known resident of' Petone. The late Captain Delaney resigned from tho service of the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board six months ago because of ill health.

Born in Christchurch in 1886, the lato Captain Delaney was educated at the Sacred Heart College, Auckland. He went to sea from Auckland. He served in tho West African campaign just after the Boer War, and afterwards he was appointed chief mate of the Empress of Hussia. He joined up witli the Canadian Artillery when the Great War commen&ed, and from that body was transferred to the Canadian Cavalry, and was in the second battle of Ypres with thb cavalry. Captain Delaney was next transferred to the Canadian Tank Corps, after which ho was appointed adjutant at tho Cavalry Training Barracks at Folkestone, where he remained until the end of the war.

In New Zealand he had been actively associated with the Legion of Frontiersmen, being captain of the Waiwhetu Troop. He was. a member of the Masonic Craft. Captain Dclaney joined the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board's staff on the inception of the board in 1924, and was in charge of the outside gangs doing the early construction work, and continued in tho board's service- .until ill health compelled his retirement. An officer of the board stated to "Tho Post" today that all were sorrjr to lose the services

of so capable and fine a man. He is survived by his mother, widow, and two daughters, aged 13 and 9 years respectively, and five brothers and one sister. The funeral will leave at 2 p.m. tomorrow from Petone for tho Soldiers' Cemetery, Karori.

One of Foxton's oldest _ and most highly respected residents, in the person of Mr. Charles Edward Eobinson, died at his residence, Claremont, Lady's Mile, on Saturday after a lingering illness at tho ago of 66 years. The deceased, who was well known throughout the Manawatu district, was a member of an old pioneering family of farmers, being the seventh son of, the late Captain Francis Eobinson, who was prominently connected with the early settlement in the district. For many years tho lato Mr. Robinson was actively connected with the Foxton Racing Club, and at tho time of his death occupied tho position of vicepresident of the club- He was also a member of tho Manawatu (Foxton.) racecourse trustees. Mr. Robinson loaves a widow, and three sons, Messrs. Charles Cccii, Edward Hei-stoiii and Maurice. Fredrick, all of Foxton. He is survived by one brother, Mr. J. W. Robinson, of Foxton, and three sisters, Mesdames E. S. Thynne and Willie Eobinson, of Foxton, and Hadfield, of Wanganui.
