(To the Editor.)

Sir,—As one who has been seeking for employment other than relief work I have been surprised to find that I could not obtain a job on any of the large buildings which are at present being constructed in Wellington under the Government's subsidy scheme. There are single men working on these buildings who have refused to go to the camps. I, on the other hand, am a married man with a wife to keep, and a taxpayer withal,' yet I cannot 'find an opening. I do not think that the Government can realise the position or they would not permit single men to hav.e preference over the married men, more especially on the buildings which.are being constructed under the subsidy scheme, which after all was intended to relieve the unemployment position. Why cannot some preference be given to the married men? —I am, etc.,
