Tho rioters' home-made bombs exploded harmlessly. Stones were thrown and sticks used, compelling the' British n.c.o. to order hjs men to fire a few shots. Two rioters were killed and 15 taken to hospital. Veiled women, screaming from the housetops, incited the mob. The whole city was filled with excited Arabs eager to demonstrate. They compelled Jewish shops to close in the main street, smashed one Jewish establishment, and compelled one British shop to put up its shutters. Members of the Arab executive) were arrested. Others protested about tha police firing at Jaffa, and demanded the release of leaders, and decided ta protest to Arab kinds and the League of Nations. Arab shopkeepers and motor« bus owners continue to strike.
The flight of aeroplanes parked at Cairo in readiness for emergency so far, has not been required. The police fully, control the situation. The curfew is effective at nightfall. The Jaffa trouble lias apparently been quelled. All Arab papers have been suspended at Damascus.
