STRONG CRITICISM

BRITISH NEWSPAPERS

ARREST OF CORRESPONDENT

(BrHisu Official Wireless.) . j (deceived October 28, 1 p.m.) i EUGBY, Oetober_27. Very strong criticism ia made in the English Press of th© action of the German authorities in reference to the arrest by the Bavarian political police on Tuesday of Mr. Noel Pantcr, the Munich correspondent of the "Daily Telegraph.". The "News-Chronicle" . comments: "If there was one certain way-of focusing the attention of the whole of Europe on the military character of a 'peaceful' demonstration and of arousing widespread suspicion, it was by arresting a reputable English journalist who had dared to tell the truth in a leading English newspaper." . The "Times" Munich correspondent observes: '' Foreign residents in Munich find sonio difficulty in understanding how t.ho Bavarian authorities reconcile their complaint of misinterpretation abroad with tho fact that uniformed IN'azis wnlk the streets ostentatiously armed with revolvers, that Jvnzi Guards at tho. Brown House carry rifles, and that bodies of the S.A. may be seen on the march armed.with, rifles or executing; field manoeuvres in parks aud meadows."
