OTAKI METHODIST SOCIAL
The Methodist social, held last Wednesday evening in connection with the anniversary of the Otaki Methodist Sunday School, passed off most successfully. The proceedings opened with a hymn by the scholars, after which the Key. Ayrton led in prayer. After the chairman's remarks a very fine programme of recitations was given by the scholars. All vere well received and loudly applauded. The secretary's report showed that while the number of. scholars had decreased, the average attendance was excellent, being well over 75 per cent., considerably above the average for New Zealand. The financial position was also shown as satisfactory. ' ■ ; In a word to the parents Mr.'.Cocknell (the superintendent) expressed the hope that more of them might : be seen at public worship, the excellent attendance of the children at Sunday 'school proving that there was an interest in church life. The prizes gained during the year were distributed. The prize gained by Margaret Taylor, and certificates gained by all the other scholars who sat for; the Sunday School Union examination,'■■were also distributed. Supper Was then served.
