THE MALAITA

The illustration appearing on this page is of the new Burns, Philp and Company motor-ship Malaita, which recently completed successful trials. She is the third ship to be built by Barclay, Curie, and Company for those owners, but her machinery differs from that in the other vessels. Her machinery consists in -an eight cylinder, two-stroke, single-acting B. and W. Diesel engine, which is the first of the type to be installed in a British ship. It will give her a speed of 12 knots. The Malaita has accommodation for 101 passengers'and will also carry a number of native' passengers and a limited number of Chinese passengers. Large insulated stores and provision rooms for. domestic uso are provided. In addition, a portion of the 'tween decks in insulated for the carriage of fruit and meat cargoes.
