IMPROVED AND DISPROVED
After being caught in the tapes at the start of the Flying Handicap at Gore last Monday, Fair Weather almost made up his concession of a dozen lengths to the rest of the field.. On that form he was backed to second favouritism in the Stewards' Handicap on ' Tuesday, but his best was a poor third. Obviously, his effort on the opening day . got to the bottom o£ him. It happens sometimes in racing that people are misled, after seeing a fine performance under •difficulties, in assuming that with a. fair break the horse will repeat the feat to win. It should always be a matter for consideration, whether a horse is liable to improve or deteriorate after a race. Blazon gave a different answer to Fair Weather, who, like nearly all the Weathervanes, is a delicate horse. • The former was seen to be a good thing beaten in the Charltou Handicap, won by. Worship, being ten lengths away from the leaders at the six-furlong post and coming into third place, close up. On that, Blazon went out a strong fancy for the Farewell Handicap, and he won, but only by a neck.
