CUP TRIAL MEETING
PUBLIC ATTEND WELL
After a fine morning early, the - weather at Pctono showed ;i change during tlio forenoon, and light misty tain had begun to fall by the time the totalisator had closed for the opening events at tlio Wellington Trotting Club's Cup Trial Meeting at Ilutt Park today. A good attendance was already at the course then, but the change in the weather undoubtedly prevented the . usual increase during the- first couple •of races. :•■■ The track and course after a fine week wero in excellent order and the rain .was not heavy enough to affect them early, although the track promised ' to' become' greasy later on if the rain continued. Eesults and running descriptions of the ' racing up to the time of going to press were:— -PJ2TONE HANDICAP TROT, of 130 soys; second 20 soys and third 10 soys from the stake; for unhoppled trotters only; 3.42 class; 1J miles. 2—2— J. The. placed horses in the Petono Han--I■, dicap Trot,j Gyrate, Real Boy, and Chiming Wrack, were* always the leading bunch, and except that Nelson's Prince showed speed for six furlongs, , nothing over got in a blow against them. At the end of a round Nelson's Prince, who had gone from last to tho front in the first two furlongs after a slow beginning, was dropping out of it again 'and Eeal Boy took charge passing the stands from Gyrate and Chiming Wrack, with tho rest a long way back. So the order of the leaders was maintained to the straight, but Eeal Boy then was unablo to withstand a challenge from Gyrate, who beat him home comfortably by a length. Chiming' Wi'ack was six lengths back third, with a gap of a dozen lengths to Amonos, Eaelaim, and Resound. The favourite, Norman Fox, fell down before the start, and although he got up and left with tho others, he ■was very lame, and had to be stopped. Eaydus j and Roddy turned into the straight just , .iv front of Purser, and a great race homo developed. Purser looked the ' winner fifty yards from tho post, but .
