WHITE BUTTERFLY
SUPPLY OF PARASITES
(Special to the "Evening Post.") MASTERTON, This Day. Some interesting information on the subject of the liberation of white butterfly parasites in the Wairarapa has been obtained from Mr. J. Muggeridge, entomologist to the Department of Agriculture's plant research station, Palmerston North, by Mr. F. Norris, secretary of the Wairarapa Small Holdings Association. In reply to an inquiry by Mr. Norris, Mr. Muggeridge wrote:—"Just at present I am unable to say what numbers o£ parasites I will have for liberation in the coming season, nor can I state the actual date, but most likely it will be at some period early in the New Year. I should like to point out that the liberation _of parasites in your district in the coming season will have little effect on the immediate control of the butterfly, and gome considerable time will yet have to elapse before the effect o£ their presence will be felt. The object at present is to concenbate the bulk of the supplies- for tho Wiiiiaiapa in a more or less central area. the idea being to ensure establishment of tlie parasites in that locality. Indiscriminate distribution will be avoided as far as possible, as such a method is only likely to dissipate our supplies mid tend to render the experiment a failure."
