NELSON, October 26.

The spell of dry weather continues and tho conditions in the country districts are causing some anxiety, as there has beeri no rain for about sis weeks. The early spring was mo6t promising, all crops netting a good start, but the dry conditions, helped by last week's cold snap, have resulted in an almost complete cessation in growth. Grass and crops have reached a stage when rain is a necessity Mr. S. B. McGregor, on transfer from Oamaru, has arrived in Nelson to take over the duties of officer in charge of the Labour Department's office, which position was made vacant by the transfer of Mr. M R Ross to Christchurch.
