MEDICAL TREATMENT
RESOLUTION RESCINDED
Tbu Wellington Hospital Board last eveuiug, on the casting voto of the chairman (Mr. F. Castle), .rescinded tlio following resolution adopted by the board ou August oJ :—"That non-resi-dent members of the staff be entitled to the following concessions:—(a) Free medical attention and treatment at the outpatient and affiliated departments; (b) inpaticnt treatment at half-fees." Mr. A. J. MeCurdy, in ,nioving that the resolution be rescinded, said that, in his opinion it was wrong for a public body to pass such a resolution. Dr. I). Macdonald Wilson pointed out that the wording of the resolution would enable the higher-paid officers to receive the benefits indicated. He did~not think that was intended. Dr. K. Campbell Begg opposed tiie original resolution, which he regarded as anti-social. Mrs. J. K. Preston opposed tlio proposal to rescind the resolution. She said that there appeared to be no good reason for differentiation in the treatment of hospital officers who lived in the hospital ~> those who did not. Mr. G. Petheriek said he was in sympathy with the original resolution up to a certain point. In his opinion there should be a wages or salary limitation of those who were to receive the benefits. Mr. MeCurdy spoke warmly in support of tho administration of the fees committee nud the board generally in regard to the consideration given financially not only to lower-paid officers of the board, but also to members of the public. After further discussion the board divided. Tho voting was equal, 7 for and 7 against, and the- chairman gave his casting vote for rescinding tho resolution.
