OMISSION OF IMPRINT.
Giving his reserved decision in. tliai Magistrate's Court today, Mr. E. Pagi'j S.M., imposed tbo minimum penalty ot, £5 upon L. T. Watkins, Ltd., for omit? ' ting to place the name and registered office of the company on a paper printed by.,it. The fact that the defendant printedthe paper, which was headed "The Banks" and purported to be a copy ofs two articles published, in. the. ""Mel* bourne Argus,'? was admitted, bnt.Mr. ,W. P. Shorfand contended that the papee ' came within tho exemption set out in. Section 8 of the, Printers and News* papers Eegistration Act, 1908. The section- states- that nothing in tho Act shall extend to the impression ofi any engraving or to the printing byj letter press of the name or. the nam» and address or business or profession of any person and of the articles in which he deals. The articles printed described thai wide range of activities-of the banks and explained and' eulogised- the ;sei-<i. vices /that the banks had cbnstantl;?j rendered to the State and to "the public Mr. Page did not think that the articles* could be held to come within the ex* eeption set out in/clause 8, and he-de-n eided that the defendants had. conn mitted a breach of the statute. ■
