AIRCRAFT AND NAVY
MANOEUVRES EXPLAINED
LONDON, September 29. The Admiralty and Air Ministry have issued a joint statement, in which they say that in view of tho newspapers drawing certain tactical conclusions after last -week's Scottish manoeuvres, it is desirable* to state that the exercises were of an elementary nature, and designed to exercise shore-based aircraft over the sea and in contact with ■ the Navy.
It <also ■ tested ships and their antiaircraft defences, for which the naval dispositions were solely arranged. There was no intention of testing the relative powor of the naval and air arms in an attack on or defence of the coast, consequently the military forces did not .participate. .
