LECTURE ON ANTARCTIC

A lantern lecture oh the Antarctic was given by Mr. A. Leigh Hunt, F.R.G.S.. at St. Anne's Hall, Northland, in aid of -the Northland Homo and School Association. Mr. Huut spoke under three headings: The Antarctic from the geographical standpoint; personal incidents with Mawson and Byrd'; Scott's last polar expedition. There was a large attendance, including a number of school children. At the conclusion of the lecture Mr. Hunt showed a set of slides taken directly off the negatives of ~Mt. Ponting (Scott's official photographer) secured through the courtesy of Captain Evans. Mr. A. J. Bland operated the lantern. A small charge was made for admission, and the proceeds are to be given towards the cost, of a cricket pitch on the Northland Park for boys.

E. Johnston and Co., auctioneers, will sell sundry cargo and oak ply at their mart at 8 Willeston Street tomorrow at 10.30 a.m. They will also sell office furnishings at 11 a.m. and unclaimed articles from Hie .Dead Letter Offiuc at 1 p-">.
