TECHNICAL COLLEGE CLUB
■ More than 150 people were present at the Technical College courts on Saturday, when the club opened its 1933-34 season. Mr. V Evans, president of the club, introduced Mr. R. G. Ridling, principal of the college, who performed the opening ceremony. Mr. Ridling extended hearty congratulations to the club on the success it had enjoyed last season, the third grade ladies' team having won the inter-club championship competition, and the teams in the fourth, fifth, and sixth grades all having been ruuners-up in their respective divisions. He referred to the ipleasing condition of affairs in the club itself, and said that the long-awaited pavilion would soon he an established fact, work beginning upon it almost at once. Miss E. Brigden, the lady champion1 of the clnb, served the first ball of the season, a very finely-placed delivery, and afternoon tea. was served in the cafeteria .'by the members of the ladies' committee. Among those present was Mr. E. Howell, a past principal of the college, who was largely responsible for the formation of the club and laying down of the courts. Apologies were received from Mr. W. H. Bennett, a member of the board of governors, for his unavoidable absence.
