WELLINGTON CLUB
At the courts of the. Wellington Lawn Tennis Club, the president (Mr. A. J. vlmk) performed the opening ceremony. Abo t eUty people were present when Mr B R. O'Brien, as chairman of the management committee, congratulated Mr. J-cr ie on his first term of oihee as president of the club, and introduced him to members in his new capacity, Mr. i'einie, who is a very old member of the AVellington Club, and has been a vicepresident for years past congratulated the club on its past performances, and expressed the hope that this year it would have a very successful season. He hoped that with the keenness shown among members, the teams would put up a good showing in the inter-club competitions, and declared the season open. Miss K. M. Nunneley, many times New Zealand champion, served the nrst ball ot the season, and members began play immediately, and spent an enjoyable, afternoon. Mr. Ferme also presented prizes to those who had won them in the various club competitions last year. Afternoon tea was served by the members of the ladies' committee. ■ Among the visitors were Mr. and Mrs. G N Goldie and Mr. H. N. Burns, secretary of the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association.
