DAY IN PARLIAMENT
NO-CONFIDENCE DEBATE
The House of Representatives has now settled down to the Serious business of the session, and yesterday main interest centred. on the no-confidenco amendment moved by tho Leader of t^q- Opposition (Mr. H. K. Holland). Mi\ Holland did not confine his amendnient to any one'phase of tho Government's policy, but made it of a comprehensive nature. la his speech in support of tho amendment he covered many phases of the Government's policy, and incidentally suggested that the verdict given by the electors of Lyttcltoa was tantamount to a notice to the Government to quit tho benches. Mr. Holland was followed by tho Minister of Health (tho Hon. J. A. Young), who defended the general policy of tho Government without breaking very much new ground. Another notable contributor to the debate was tho Deputy Leader of tho Labour Party (Mr. M. J. Savage), who dealt with monetary questions.
Towards tho end of tho evening Government members showed a disinclination to join in tho debate, which was on the point of collapsing just before 10. o'clock. A Labour member (Mr. ¥. \V. Schramm, Auckland East) filled the breach and carried tho debate to tho adjournment at 10.30 o'clock. ' Tho Addresa-in-Reply debate was continued in tho Legislative Council.
