GALLOPS AT RICCARTON

Among the best gallops of an interesting morning at Riccarton on Tuesday were the efforts of Guarantee, Croupier, Rebel Song, Silent, Flight, Polydora, • and Southdown.

Guarantee set the standard for the sprinters by reeling olf six furlongs in lmin losec, the last half iii 50scc. This colt was never better.

Croupier, down the straight, clocked 48 2-ssec for half a mile.

Rebel Song moved off a length behind Silent Flight on a seven-furlong 'cruise. They reached the half-mile in 37 1-ssec, and Rebel Song was going easily at the finish to record lmin 30sec. Silent Flight kept with him, however, and is in good shape for Dunedin engagements. The Cup horse pulled up well.

Over a mile Polydora ran Imin 42see, leaving Rational II several lengths behind. It was a smooth trial and highly satisfactory from a time point of view. '

A good seven furlongs was recorded when Southdown, accompanied by Elude, ran lmin 30 2-ssec very easily, after going the first three in 37 3 : ssec. They covered the first two furlongs at a very fast pace, and taking this into account the time for the whole distance was really good, showing Southdown's ability to hang on after a scorching start. vElude also showed up in a very, bright light, for he was giving Southdown weight, but he has often been a disappointment—as lately as last Saturday.

Shatter, conceding Fiat Lux about a stone and a. half, finished on terms with him and was going the better at the end of • a mile in lmin 44 1-osee, after they had run the first half in 50 4-ssec.

Tout lo Mond, assisted over the first half in oOsec by Silver Crag, ran home alone to complete a mile in lmin 43 4-5 sec, without being ridden out.
