MILNE AND CHOYCE, LTD.
BUSINESS REVIEWED
Sir George Elliot presided at the annual meeting of Milne and Choyce, Ltd., drapers, Auckland. He said this year had been better than last, and he emphasised that whereas last year payment of the dividend had only been possible by drawing on the "carry forward," this year it had actually been earned during the period it covered. In dealing with operations ot the firm Sir George Elliot mentioned that it was 67 years since the business had been started.' During virtually the whole of the company's existence a dividend of 8 per cent., had been paid to shareholders, and it was somewhat of a lowering of pride When the slump compelled them to reduce the rate. Stocks, he said, were "very clean indeed," as the company had maintained its policy of keeping those thoroughly up-to-date at all costs. The company had-manufactured many lines which formerly were imported. The number of customers had been greater- than ever before, but the quantity bought per purchaser was less. In taking up new departments the company had been following the trend of the times as instanced by leading stores in the big cities of the world. The report was adopted. Sir George Elliot and Mr. H. V. Choyce were reelected directors. ■
