BELLS OF REMEMBRANCE
BATTLE ANNIVERSARIES,
, Two important anniversaries in the history of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force will be commemorated by a special recital on the National .War Memorial Carillon, -Buckle Street, tomorrow afternoon. These anniversaries are the storming of Welch Ridge and the capture of La Yacquerie by the New Zealand Division in France on September 29, 1918, and the surrender of the lOfli Turkish Army to the Anzae Mounted Division on the same date in 1918. Commencing at 4 p.m.: the carillonist, Miss Gladys Watkins, will play the following programme:— (1) Canterbury Cathedral' Chime*: (2) New Zealand Division Bell, "The Somme" (sounded 8 times); (3) "My Old Kcntucfcy Homo"; (4) "The Harp That Once Thro' Tara'e Halls"; (f>) "Come O'er the Stream, Charlie"; (6) •'Hine c Hine" (Maori slumber song, by Princess Te Rangi Pai); (7) "Serenade" (Gounod); (8) "Golden Days" (Sullivan); (9) "Coronach," a Highland lament (Ban-ett); (10) • Ne\v Zealand Mounted Rifles' Bell, "Palestine" (sounded 8 times); (11) National Anthem.
Victor Kirkbeck will sell men's. suits, ladies' frocks, and drapery at-his mart, Lambton Auction Rooms, 33 Ghuznee Street, at 7 p.m. tomorrow, and furniture and sundries at 1.30 p.m.
The presentation of trophies won by members of the Petone Rugby- Football Club will take place on Monday evening. The awards are as follows: —Senior A (Dr. Bakewell's medal), A. Lambourn; senior B (Mr. J. Higgins's trophy), C. Tlatt; junior (Mr. Lark's trophy), C. . Platt; third (Mr. L. Price's trophy), R. Tegg; fourth A (Mr. Wisneskie's trophy), B. McKay; fourth B (Mr. G. Riddell's trophy), T. Ward; fifth. (Mr. W-Waklin's trophy), W. Archer; sixth (Mr. B. Kain's trophy),. H. Parker; seventh (club trophy), J. Barrett. ■
