RIVER BOARD PIONEERS
MEMORIAL PROPOSAL
Mr. L. T. AVatkins, who is president of the Hutt Bowling and Croquet Club, which has its greens adjacent to Riddiford Park, Lower Hutt, has suggested to the chairman of the River Board • (My. F.. J. Jones) and the Mayor o£ Lower Hutt (Mi.. J \V \ndrews) that a memoria.l to the first iwerribers of the Hutt River, Board should be erected on the boundary ot Riddiford Park and the bowling preens, and that the Bowling Club should give the land, the Borough Council doing the carting and erecting the memorial, and that the other materials should be provided by the River Board. The proposal is that the memorial should take the form of a pyramid of boulders with a tablet containing' the names of the' first borough membeus. ' The matter-received a sympathetic hearing from the members of the River Board at its'meeting yesterday, and a committee was set up to -consult with the- Borough Council ' and the bowling club on the subject.
