SIMLA NEGOTIATIONS
NEW TRADE AGREEMENT

Representatives o£ the Governments of India and Japan at Simla are still engaged in negotiations for a new trade agreement. A delegation of the Lancashire textile industries is in attendance. A,new agreement is to replace the existing Indo-Japanese trade .convention of 1904, six months' notice of termination of which becomes effective ou October 10. It is understood that the Japaneso Ambassador in London, was, informed by the Foreign Office a few days ago that the Government of India was willing that the convention should be prolonged and existing duties maintained at their present level for one month after October 10, 1933. If a further extension should be necessary, the Government of India would agree to an extension for a reasonable period thereafter on terms io be arranged. '
