The local senior A first division Rugby football cha'mpipnship over, the National Mutual Life Cup match was played on Saturday afternoon, the champions (Wellington College Old Boys) and Hutt being.the contenders for possession of the special trophy. The-match, which attracted about 8000 spectators, was keen and hard from start to finish, with Hutt this time taking the honours. The only other first division match was that between St. Patrick's College Old Boys and Oriental, and this was won by St. Pat's. A surprise was sprung in the second division by the defeat ol Poneke by Pelone. University defeated Johnsonville, and therefore drew level again with Poneke in the leading place. Unless ihc teams are to be bracketed as winners of the second division championship, a play-off will be necessary.
