The last of the belligerent Maori chieftains in the North, Hone Toia, died at his homo at Omapere recently, aged 73, states the "New Zealand Herald." He was a man of considerable rank and prestige among the Ngapuhi people, his particular tribe being the Mahurchure, of Hokianga. Hone was a lineal descendant of the great Ngapuhi ancestors Rahiri and Tama-ki-te-Ra, from whom also the famous chieftains Hongi Hika, Hone Heke, AYaka Nene, and Patuone likewise claimed descent. !
