INTEREST ON LOAN

SOUTHLAND'S DECISION

MORE LONDON CRITICISM

LONDON, August 25. The financial editor of the *' Daily Telegraph," discussing the Southland Electric Power Board's decision, points out that the debentures were issued here and carry the New Zealand Government's guarantee for principal and interest. Southland's decisiou is even more glaring than those of the Auckland Tramways and the Otago Harbour Board, and persistence in the attitude w.ould bo short-sighted and a costly blunder in view of the number of New Zealand local bodies' loans with early maturity. For the sake of New Zealand's credit the hope is expressed that the decision will be reversed after Friday's interview with Mr. Coates.
