Knitted in feather and fan stitch, this jumper will fit a girl of ten years. j. Materials: Three ounces, of 2-ply wool; No. 9 and No. 13 needles. Begin at the lower edge of the back and cast on 108 stitches. Bib 2 plain, 2 purl, for three inches. Change to No. !) needles and pattern. First row: Knit] 2 togother three times, * wool forward,! knit 1 six times, knit 2 together six times, and repeat from * to the last six stitches, knit 2 together three times. Second row: Plain. Third iwj Plain. F.,ourth row: Purl.. Eepeat these fourj rows throughout the work. Knit until j the work measures ten inches from the j
beginning. Shape the armholes by casting off nine stitches at the beginning of the next two rows and knit until the armholes measure six inches. Shape the armholes by easting off six stitches at the beginning of every row until there are 32 stitches left in the centre at the back of the neck. Cast oft. Front: Make. the. same as the back to 2J inches over the armholes. Cast off 3fi stitches for the square neck, and kxit up on either shoulder until the armholes are long enough... Then shape the, shoulders by casting off six stitches at the armhole edge in every other row until all stitches arc cast off. Make the other side of the neck to match. ! Sleeve: Cast on 70 stitches and rib 1 plain, 1 purl, for 1J inches. Increase to 90 stitches, and knit until the sleeve is long enough at the underarm seam, about 4J inches. Shape the top by casting off three stitches at the beginning of every row until there are 24 left in tho centre. Cast off. Press and make up and pick up all the stitches round the square neck. Rib 1 plain, 1 purl, for about one inch, always knitting 2 together at each end of either needle in every other row. Cast off.
