IMPROVED MARKETS
The New Zealand Meat Producers' Board has received the following cable from its London office, dated August 25, advising that the following are the approximate average prices realised for the week at Smitlifield market and London 6tores, compared with those of the previous week in parentheses:— New Zealand sheep: Canterbury and North Island selected crossbred wethers and maiden ewes, 48/56. 4%d per lb (4 5-8 d); 57/64, 4 l-8d (4d): 65-72, 3 7-8 d (3%d); North Island, 48/56, 4 5-8 d (4%d); 57/64, 4d (3 7-Sd); 05/72, 3%d (3 S-8d); ewes 48/nndcr, 3?4d (3%d); 48/04, 3 3-Sd (.■Hid); 65/72,' 3 l-8d (3d). New Zealand baconer pigs, 120/160 5%d Lamb market: Continues firm at the advanced prices with steady demand. Mutlon market: Wethers firm; prices have advances owing to shortening of spot stocks. Ewes are also firmer with upward tendency. Beef market: There has been more inquiry for frozen beef owing to an increase in the prices Argentine chilled beef due to shorter supplies. New Zealand porker pigs: Firmer, owing to temporary short supplies and slightly better demand. New Zealand baconer pigs: Are also firmer due to short spot stocks. The Bank of New Zealand, Produce Department, has received the following advice from its London office as at clpse of business this week:—Smaller supplies of wethers have caused prices to harden. The market for ewes is firm, with an upward tendency. The demand for lambs is moderate, but prices are firm. The market for beef is more active owing to shorter supplies from the Argentine.
