HAWKE'S BAY HUNT

MIXED FIELDS ENGAGED

HORSES IN LIKELY FORM

Mixed fields have accepted for the postponed Hawke's Bay Hunt Club's Annual JMeeting at Hastings tomorrow, but in same events at least there should be interesting racing. Good-class horses and others .who promise to reach class this season are engaged,, and their performances...will' be worth, noting. The track is likely to be in good order, easy after light rain during the week, but not heavy. The disappointing field of the day is that carded for the njaia event, the Hawke's Bay Hunt Cup, but little better could have been expected so late on in the hunting season. The well-bred Chronic, winner of the Hunt Cup at Gisborne three weeks ago, is almost assured of favouritism, and the only other likely to be supported in any degree is Coonoor, who carries the same colours us last year's winner, Luna Lux. The other two acceptors are quite unknown quantities.

The most interesting field is the open sprint, the Abbotsford Handicap, and Curie, Koyal Bengal, and Royal Hunting must''assure' a good' race, even without taking into' consideration'such as Gold Trail1 and: Gold- Mag, who may not be: sufficiently.'forward yet. Cuticle is one d.own'.ott the5 bottom who is likely to be hard :if.anywhere handy before reaching 'the straight. .;■ The ,'l|ark Hurdles has filled no better than the'steeples, hut it should attract more attention, with the final favourite probably- Paleta, who' has been xinlucky not to have won a hurdling event yet.

The Soutra Hunters' Plat is also a p.oorly patronised item, and it is surprising to find the acceptors including Luna Lux, whose name was not telegraphed with the weights. The Gold Ruler-Luna Lux bracket, at both legs start, is likely to be a good favourite, with Rory Mor also carrying support. Gold Ruler is also in the hack mile, but, although he would go well if this race were chosen, Aesculus might prove his master with an advantage in weight. In the hack six the issue is decidedly open, with final preference possible for Limbohin and Hunting Star, though Cullus and Royal Shift (winners in the autumn) and the group below Hunting Star offer a wide range of other prospects fcr investors. The -following horses are likely to be supported:— - - ■"■l2.3Q.—Park Hack and Hunters' Hurdles: Paleta. l.lQ.^rOkawa Maiden: Margaret Hose, Sir Nigel, and Snnstead. '.
