Upwards of 400,000 American veterans wore recently given notice that there is to be au end to payments lo them from the Government. Veter;ins' administration officials, meanwhile, pushed along plans for early reviews of the eases of hundreds of thousands of other formbr soldiers to determine whether they shall stay on the rolls, and what they shall be paid. Under the economy law and subsequent modifying regulations and statutes, approximately 387,000 World War soldiers receiving disability allowances for troubles not directly connected with 1 heir service go oft' the rolls for an estimated saving of 83,000,000 dollars. Administration officials said there- were several thousand others for whom payments stop, but the total was not available, either iv the aggregate or _by classification of the former soldiers, although there were hundreds of emergency retired officers iv the list.
