VETERAN'S BIRTHDAY
Mr. W. H. Sebley, who was the only Maori War veteran present at the unveiling of the memorial to Sergeant Ingram at Lower Hutt recently, is today celebrating his'eighty-sixth birthday. At the age of 17, against the wishes of his parents, he enlisted in the Napier Militia, which was one of the units under the control of yon Tempsky. At this time Kereopa, the murderer of the Rev. C. S. Volkner at Opotiki, in March, 1865, was stirring up trouble at Waiapu, in the Poverty Bay district. The loyal Maoris requested help from the Europeans, and a force was shipped up the coast from Napier, Private Sebley being one of the nuntbm\ Mr. Sebley is the bolder of the New Zealand Medal aud a member of the New Zealand Association of his Majesty's Veterans. By trade Mr. Sftbley' is a cabinetmaker, but he is best known for his skill in camera building and repairs, for which he is noted all over the Dominion. He is also an enthusiastic photographer;
