COMPLIMENTARY SOCIAL

Xafit evening a complimentary social was tendered to Mr. and Mrs. G. B. McDougall by the representatives of the various organisations associated. with the public Bchool at Island Bay. For many years Mr. McDougall' hae been chairman of the school committee,' and during his term of office many improvements in the school and grounds have been: carried out.' Some five years ago Mr. McDougall was responsible for calling together the parents of Island Bay to form the first home and school association in' connection with primary schools in the Dominion, Prom that association at Island Bay similar associations have sprung up throughout New Zealand, and have been of material benefit to the schools concerned. /

Mr. E. J. Smith, president of the Home and School Association, Mr. O. J. Howarth, headmaster, Island Bay School, and Mr. N. A. Ingram, chairman of the school c6mmittee, eulogised the work of Mr. McDougall, and stated that he had been an inspiration to all, and set -an , example which they might all emulate. Mr. McDougall; was presented with an illuminated address contained in an artisI tically-embossed leather folio, and the recipient suitably replied. The remainder of the evening took the form of a social.

Mr. Hugh Owen has been elected president of.tho Welsh Society of Wellington, and Miss K. Phillips secretary.
