The weekly luucheon of the Nelson Kotary Club today was presided over by tho newly-elected, president (Dr. J. P. S. Jamieson). An interesting talk on, flying and the activities of the Nelson Aero Club was given by Mr. K. McLaren, secretary of that organisation, and a vote pf thanks was accorded the speaker. Guests at'tho luncheon were Dr. 11. 10. A. Washbourn, Lieutenant R. Washbourn, and Mr. A. R. Kingsford, president of the NcUon Aero Club.
The following officers were elected by the annual meeting of the Nelson Jersey Breeders' Association:—President, Mr. L. A. Higgins (re-elected); vice-presi-dent, Mr. W. D. Dron; treasurer, Mr. A. G. Griiiin; executive committee, Messrs. C. B. Webby, G. \V. Wilkes, S. H. Wearing, and J. Sutton; secretary, Mr. H. R. Griffin. It was decided to grant £20 as prize money for Jerseys at the next A. and P. Association show.
Tho Nelson Harbour Board, at its monthly meeting, considered a letter from tho executive of the llarbours' Association regarding "what is stated to bo the unfair and uneconomical competition of the railways with coastal shipping." It was decided to approve of a reply already sent by tho chairman that the matter did not affect Nelson, but that the board was interested in any matters concerning harbour boards generally. The meeting decided to renew its grant of £35 to 'the Nelson Provincial Progress League.
The annual Rugby match between Marlborough College and tiie Nelson College second fifteen resulted in a win for Nelson by 8 points (two tries, one converted) to 3 (a penalty goal). The match was played on the college ground, and much interest was taken iv the fixture.
It was reported at yesterday's meeting of the Nelson Hospital Board that there had been a considerable increase ill the average number of beds occupied .during the first quarter of this financial year compared with last year. For the quarter ending June 30 this year the average beds occupied numbered fll.B compared with 73.2 last year. The chairman (Major R. Dagger) remarked that the matter had become so serious that it had been' found necessary to bring practically the whole of tho old block of buildings into use.
