There was a good attendance of membeTS and senior .pupils last week at the monthly meeting of the Kilbirnie Hojne and School Association to hear a lecture by Mr.' H. M. Christie on early Maori life in the Miramar and surrounding districts east of the Mount Victoria ridge. . ■' Commencing with the advent of Kupc and Ngahuo (also known as Ngake) approximately 1000 years ago, tlic speaker-traced the traditional history and surveyed interesting events associated with the various tribes which settled in the locality. With the- aid of a specially prepared map ho was able to indicate to the audience the sites of the principal pas and to tell of his own discoveries and experiences over many years in his effort to collect additional information of the.so early warriors. P.oing of remarkable local interest, the address proved very instructive and informative as well' as entertaining, and at'the conclusion a, vote of thanks to Mr. Christie was carried.
