Following demands for tho suppression of the Bavarian People's Party, tho leader, Father Johann Leicht, a priest, was arrested in bed at Bamberg. Many other Catholics and Socialists were arrested. The People's Party arrests number hundreds, including the leaders, Herren Schaeffer, yon Lex, and Pfeiffer', also Prince yon Wrede and Baron Hirseh. Some members were forewarned and fled. ( "../ • : " . It was alleged that they had been conducting subversive propaganda against the Government. . . In Prussia 465 Communists and Socialists were arrested "for their own safety." ; . "■.■■■
