WOOL TRADE
REVIVAL OF CONFIDENCE
Mr. George Jeffrey, South Australian representative of the Bulolo: Gold Dredging Company of New Guinea, a director of Guinea Airways, Ltd., and a prominent wool grower, who recently returned to Australia from England and the United States, had a commission from the South Australian Government to inquire into the position of wool and woollen mills in England and the United States.' As a result of inquiries he states that there were definite prospects of the United States again becoming a serious buyer on the Australian wool market. United States mills were now so busy that they were rapidly absorbing all domestic wool, and would soon want to import more. When he landed in the United States the woollen mills were in a deplorable-state, many having closed down, and even the best of them working only half-time. When he left they were practically all working full time, and several of them had mad,e a voluntary increase of 12% per cent, in the wages of their employees.
