SHOOTING TROPHIES
■ The presentation of shooting trophies won by St. Patrick's College, Silverstream, took place on Saturday evening. The presentation was made by/ Captain V. Sugden, N.Z.S.C., who, before handing the trophies over' to "the rector, the Rev. J. W. Dowling,briefly traced the history of the various Imperial challenge competitions for secondary schools. The main trophy, which Silverstream had won with an average of 89.916, was the trophy that had been presented , by Admiral of the Fleet Earl Jellicoe for the best team in the Dominion. The college had gained thirtyseventh place in the list of 100' best teams in the Empire. ".- ■ -Captain' Sugden congratulated the school on its successes, and expressed the hope that it would endeavour to retain .the trophies already won. • . . ,: The rector expressed pleasure at. receiving, the trophies, and pride in the school's acliievements. Of the team of 69, 25 boys won Empire marksmen badges (white rifle and star on a blue background), with a score of 90 or over, and 29 others were declared Empire first-class shots, and have the * right to wear the badge (white rifle on a blue background). ; . The college'also won the Kebbel shield, which has been re-awarded to the school in the Central Command of New Zealand which gains'the highest average in the Imperial Challenge'- Shield competition. By winning the New Zealand trophy, the college automatically won the Central Command trophy. A special medal in bronze awarded to the coach of the winning team in each Dominion was presented to the Rev. J. J. Kennedy, of the college staif. A further trophy, the Barton Rose Bowl, was won by the college for-long-range shooting. • _^^^^ '-
