1, in the presence of about 3000 'spectators. The turf, was soft, ■ but otherwise the. conditions were good, there being an' absence of wind and sun.:. There was.no score in the first spell, but two • minutes after recommencing, fumbling by Cawtheray let Hooper through to register the first score for Otago. Play was then up and down. At first Canterbury were dangerous, when Hooper was away with only the goalkeeper to beat. Mitchell ran out and smothered the shot, conceding a resultless corner. Hooper secured again, and tapped to Skinner, whose cross was headed into the net by MeCormack. Otago 2, Canterbury nil. A right-wing advance by the visitor* gave L\ Sutherland two shots; the second beating McDougall. Otago 2, Canterbury 1. Fast play followed, and Mitchell went doivn to a carpet drive by McCormaek, Hooper bustling the ball into the net. Otago 3, Canterbury 1. ''. Mitchell was carried off injured, A. Walker replacing him in goal. The visitors staged some nice movements, but managed only once again to net, the scorl being disallowed owing to a foul.
