UNIVERSITY CONTESTS

SPORTS AND DEBATING

The inter-university annual debate for the Joynt Scroll will take place at Dunedih on Wednesday, July 5. Two speakers from each of the four university, colleges will take part. Victoria College will be represented by Miss Zenocrate Henderson and Mr. A. F. T. Chorlton, and the Canterbury University College Dialectic Society will be represented by "Messrs. I. F. G. Milner and C. F. Hart. The subject to bo debated is, "That the British Empire is Now in a State of! Decline." Victoria will take the affirmative against Canterbury,'and Otago will debate against Auckland. • Coincident with the visit of the debating teams, two other inter-university events will take place in Dunedin. The annual Bugby match between representative teams from Canterbury and Otagb'Colleges will be played on July 5, and on the aamo day harrier teams from Canterbury and Otago will compete for the South Island Inter-univer-sity College Harrier Challenge Cup, presented by Dr. Carmalt Jones, and won last year by Otago.
