PONEKE'S NARROW WIN
In a second division game Poneke just got home by the narrow margin of one point from Johnsonville, the final score being Poneke 11, Johnsonville, 10. Play was mainly confined to the forwards, the packs being evenly matched. At half-time Johnsonville led 5-3. C'athcart scored for the suburban team, Laws converting, while Howard obtained a try for Poneke.
Poneke started off vigorously in the second spell and got two tries in quick
eiiccession. Debreceny and Arkle were the try-getters, Currie converting the first, Johnsonville retaliated and Cathcart scored a great try almost underneath the posts. Moore converted. Despite its efforts, the suburban team could not make up the little leeway, and it was still one point to the bad when the final whistle sounded.
