The trail laid by J. W. McMillan and W. A. Brown for the Scottish Club's Ballantyne Cup race comprised one lap of the Vosseler Shield course. There were thirty-three competitors. The limit man was started by the' Mayor (Mr. T. C. A. Hislop). A. L. Stevens, the winner, conceded starts up to (imin.
Along the beach the back-markers reduced their leeway rapidly, the heavy goiug slowing up the leader. Off the beach the limit man Harle was leading Ballantyne and S. Dawkins, the rest of the field closing up. At this stage Ballantyne had gone to the front, but unfortunately had to retire owing to cramp. At the foot of the hill the order was C. Dawkins, jfai'le, Paulin, and. K. Violich, with the scratch man 400 yards away. Many changes took place in the ascent of the hill, I\. Violich moving up to second place, followed by Riddington, Buchanan, and Parkliouse. The last-named had gained many places hero, with Stevens doing likewise a little further back.
1?. Violich had taken the lead at the aerodrome, but was closely followed by Riddington and Buchanan. Stevens, however, coming through at a fast clip, looked to have the race well in hand. I'rom the bitumen plant the order was R. Violich, Buchanan, Parkliouse, Riddington, and Stevens. Entering Freybcrg Street, Stevens took the lead for the first time, and commenced to open up a gap, brenstm?; the tape with 25 yards to spare from Parkhouse, with Buchanan; Riddington, McLcod, and Violich next in that order.

Visitors and friends were entertained at afternoon tea after the race. In the absence of the Mayor, the cup presented to Stevens by Mr. G. Lauchlan, president of the Caledonian Society. Other speakers included Mr. H. MeCoriniek and Mr. C. A. Willis. Three cheers ■were given for the donor of the cup, Mr. W. W. Bnllantyne.
