EXPORT FRUIT TRADE

HEAVY ARRIVALS, LOW

PRICES

LQNDON.-June 24,

The apple trade is very.disappointing and prices of most varieties are poor. Only hard sorts like Stunners and Eokewoods are being sought after. The position is hot surprising when it is considered that the aggregate arrivals in United Kingdom ports from Australia and New Zealand .already are nearly 4,200,000, of which over 1,200,000 arrived in the last three weeks. ' :.,..-.. ~

Conditions in. the-fruit trade .have been aggravated, by large supplies of strawberries, which, after the copious rain, matured rapidly and have been flooding the markets and selling as low ; as sixpence a pound. Cherries also are plentiful, and are selling at the same price. Similar conditions prevail in Germany, •where markets are also affected by considerable supplies transhipped from Eng•]a_nd,. which mostly arrived in a poor condition.-
