PROTEST BY MOTORISTS

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) ' .DUNEDIN, June 25.

At the quarterly meeting of the South Island Motor Union' last night , Mr. Carey, on behalf ■of the: executive moved: "That this meeting disapproves of an automobile association or club assuming a name that would tend to indicate that it is: a governing body." Mr, Carey said'the executive considered this an improper procedure.

Mr. Haigh\ seconded the motion. The chairman of the- executive (Mr. Breen) said the executive objected, to the Auckland Association penning itself "Automobile Association" and giving the impression thaVit was the governing boay of motoring in New Zealand. As a, counter to this, a body of Christchurch motorists had formed an organ' isation which they had registered under the name of /'New Zealand Automobile Association," and he sugges-tqd that Otago and Southland should submit tho names of members to form a council. v

It was decided to endorse the executive's action in ,. support of the new association, and "Messrs. Breen (Dunedin), P. Allison (South Canterbury), Wesriey ■"(Southland)',7Jeiikins-1 (North Otago), Furniss (Marlb.orough), and Dr. Gibb (Nelson) were nominated as members of the new council.
