WINTER COMES
■ (Original.) 'Twas k bleak cold night, when, with a flourish of trumpets King Winter entered our Fairy Eing, followod by his thousand of snowflake imps. # Hi» icy fingers touched each tree and flower, transforming them into masses of crystal white. Even tho mushrooms had soft little cushions of snow, on them. The snowflake imps darted among the blades of grass, chuckling with glee at the, wfty each little stray rabbit took to his heels, and hopped into his warm burrow as. the imps laid their hand* on him. In the middle of our ring were Fairlel, the Prince, and all the pixies, clustered round a lovely big fire, listening to the beautiful tales Fairiel was telling tiiem and roasting big chestnuts. Fairiel; now finding it rather late, tucked each pixie into bed, and she and thO, Prince sat awhilo by tho bright fires. When at last only a few ember's were left, they rose a.nd went away, but riot without giving a gay laugh to. King Winter, who was fuming be-: eauso lie had not succeeded in making them cold.
