This,'.however, has not yet come to pass. Eight-oared whalers are used in the race. The course was from, between the King's and Pipitea wharfs to the Clyde Quay Wharf. The wind was a strong northerly, and the sea choppy. Crews from four ships competed—the New Zealand Shipping Company's 'steamer Otaki, the Commonwealth and Dominion Line's steamer.
