The final results of the egg laying contest held at Massey College appeared in last week's notes. Mr. F. Ecob, of Walla cqyille, has repeated his success of last.year, in- that his ti,>am has put up 'the: highest score for Leghorns again, buta team of Orpingtons belonging to Mrs. J. A. B. Hellaby,. of Auckland, hhs just;beatcn his score and.wins the Golden Egg: Trophy. But . Mr. Eeob 's team wins the Breeders' Trophy, and for one breeder to make two such good wins is'indeed a really fine record. 'Another outstanding, record is that of Mr. A. K. "Watson's, (Hawera) Brown Leghorn which wins the singles section.- Mr. W.E. Jones's Rhode Island Beds coming from Stratford take, third place in the teams and-were unlucky not to win the Breeders' Trophy as they arc ■wonderfully good specimens of their breed. There will bb no report for the next two weeks, when the first week of the third annual contest will appear. , The high "sebres at the Tnranaki.competition will, cause praise for the caretaker. Remember that type makes the breed and colour the. variety! Good breed type should be the first essential in stud stock. Paper pedigrees are not of any value if tho birds are not strong and healthy.
Avoid the habit of doctoring your birds. Proper housing and feeding i should keep them in good condition, Isolate all sick birds at once.
