ATTEMPT TO STOW AWAY
A fine of £5, in default one month's imprisonment, was imposed by Mr. E. Page, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court today on George Henry Trillo, a labourer, aged twenty-seven, who pleaded guilty to a charge of attempting to stow away on the Wahine at Wellington.
Sub-Inspector Martin eaid that at 7.20 p.m. on Tuesday a search was made on the Wahine, and the accused was found in the greasers' quarters. Although a search was made at 7 p.m. by the ship's purser the accused was not then found. A second search was made by the police in consequence of information received.
Mr. T. P. McCarthy, who appeared for Trillo, said that the accused had not had a ship for several months, and had been unable to get relief work. He had heard that there was a possibility of his getting a ship in the south, and that was his reason for attempting to stow away.
