The third annual conference of tha S"ew Zealand Optimists' Clubs was open* cd .today. The chairman, Mr. L. JR. Blake, said that the movement Teas proving successful, but iv spite of thi? the objects of the optimists' clubs were not yet fulfilled.

The first seven years were the worst, Mr. Blake said, and the best was yet to come. There was enough driving: force in members to alter the whole outlook of the people of Ne\r Zea* land if the clubs meant business.
