To back up its application to be given a share in ona'of the large alluvial gold art unions, tl'O executive of the Christchurch Keturned Soldiers' Association, at its meeting this week, decided to send a deputation to interview tho Minister of Internal' Affairs, the Hon. J. A. Young, in Wellington, at the earliest opportunity. A letter from tho Minister stated that he had directed that tho application be listed with others still waiting to bo dealt with (htates the "Chris church Times"). "Whilst I should''be very pleased to meet a deputation' from your association in support of tho request, might I suggest," tho Minister added, "that (my special visit to Wellington for this purpose- would involve an expense Which might bo avoided in view of the fact that I am fully soizod of the gravity of the distress existant as a consequence of Iho prevailing economic conditions." Tho Minister stated that ho had noted with interest the information supplied to the Department by tho association and would give the fullest consideration to , the representations when tho appplicatioh camo up for te:vicw. Mr. G. A. Ilaydcn said that if tho matter was to bo <>xpodited it would bo necessary for a deputation to go to Wellington. He suggested that when tho association found it necessary to send delegates to Wellington on other btisinesa tho Minister should be interviewed regarding tho matter.
